Seven Days of Mindfulness

Day 1

Today is all about setting the tone or intention behind why you’re participating in this journey.

This will require a few minutes of reflection. It’s a very important step in this journey so please take the time to do it.

When we’ve taken the time to get clear on our intention for this journey, this will give us an anchor to come back to when we’ve fallen off track. Think of it as your deeper why behind wanting to be live more Mindfully.

So to clarify your intention, ask yourself these 2 questions:

  • How do I want to feel during and after the holidays?
  • What matters to me most right now?

Please take a few minutes now to zone in on your intention. I highly recommend writing or typing it down somewhere. Sharing it with someone is also very effective. If you’re up for it, message me your intention – I’d love to hear it!

Tune back to your intention daily to stay committed to this journey.

See you for Day 2 tomorrow.

Day 2

[This video has no sound so please read the description below.  A version with sound is available on my instagram account.]

Today is all about presence – with a “C-E” not a “T-S”.

Being present for someone is one of, if not THE, most meaningful gift we can offer.

Today, we’re starting with ourselves – gifting ourselves our presence.

Please take a task that you do for yourself every day – such as brushing your teeth, getting dressed, washing your hands, drinking your coffee or tea – and bring your full attention to this task. Savour what you see, smell, hear, touch, taste – use as many of your senses as possible.

Consider the mindset that regardless of the simplicity and mundane-ness of the task, this is a moment to be present with yourself, to nourish yourself.

At the end of the task, tune into your body. Notice your breath. Notice any sensations that you feel within your body in that moment. Take in how you’re feeling. And let that guide your next few moments.

Being present with yourself is the task.

Alrighty, over to you.

See you tomorrow for Day 3.

Day 3

The gift of presence starts with creating space for ourselves each day, even if just for a few minutes. This was Day 2’s task.

Today is part 2 of presence. The focus is on sharing our presence with others.

So today, when you’re with someone else, in-person or on the phone, or even texting if that’s all it is for today, maintain a little bit of attention on your breath. If you find your mind wandering or planning your response while you’re in the presence of someone else, gently bring your focus back to your breath.

Allow your breath to also be a way to check in with your emotions as you’re with someone. Notice if how your breathing changes, or if you hold your breath for instance.

Allow it give you that feedback.

Day 4

Day 4 is all about eating mindfully.

Our relationship with food is deeply personal, and during the holiday season, when food often takes center stage, there can be added layers of complexity—around indulging, not having enough, or even sharing meals with people we don’t usually eat with.

Today, let’s focus on cultivating appreciation for the food in our lives, even amidst personal or societal challenges.

Your intentional action for today is to savour a small, simple meal. It could be a piece of fruit, a Christmas cookie, a cup of tea.

Take your time—notice the colours, smells, and textures. Chew slowly, and pay attention to how the food feels in your mouth and as you swallow.

Allow yourself to be fully present for the experience, and invite in gratitude for the gift of this simple meal.

Bon appétit!

Day 5

Seven Days of Mindfulness.

Today, for day 5, we’re leaning into gratitude.

Think of someone who has supported or impacted you positively recently.

Reflect on exactly why you’re thankful for them—whether it’s their kindness, humour, or a small gesture that made a difference.

Then let them know you’re grateful for them and exactly why.

It could be a quick text, a thoughtful phone call, or an in-person moment. If it was a momentary interaction with a stranger, take a moment to think of them, sending them good wishes from within.

For many of us, this task may feel uncomfortable to do. But I’m encouraging you to really lean into that discomfort. I promise it’s so worth it.

Day 6 tomorrow!

Day 6

The holidays often come with disrupted routines, meaning that exercise, movement, time outdoors often don’t stay on the schedule.

But what if moving our body didn’t have to go hand in hand with a rigid routine or schedule?

Today – Day 6 – is about shifting our mindset to see movement as an opportunity to reconnect with our body – no matter for how long.

Throughout the day, notice pauses where you can move your body with intention. It could be rolling your shoulders, reaching your arms overhead, or standing up on your toes.

Pay attention to the sensations of the movement within your body. If time allows, let one movement flow into another, creating a short, mindful sequence.

This video is just one example.

Day 7

Day 7, here we are!

Bringing mindfulness into our everyday moments is all about practice, practice, and more practice – as you may have experienced during this 7 day journey.

So today, rather than introducing a new task, it’s an opportunity to reflect back on the actions you’ve taken over the last 6 days:

What worked well? What needs more practice? What have you learned about yourself?

Once you’ve done that, the invitation is to then take one of the actions that really resonated for you, or perhaps one that you feel you didn’t give enough attention to, and try it again today.

So we’re reflecting, and circling back today, on our last official day of this journey.

Which day and action will you go back to?
